Here is another option for cyclists who want to listen to music on their rides, and still be aware of surrounding noise. This is our review of the OneOdio OpenRock S Air Conduction Sport Earbuds. I have been cycling with these for the past month, and I am totally enjoying the experience.
The OneOdio OpenRock earbuds present an additional option for cyclists who want premium sound on their bikes, but who also want to stay in touch with their surroundings. Many of us insist on this, because obviously, it is safer.
Also, these earbuds offer an alternative for those who don’t enjoy bone conduction sound. They conduct sound the old-fashioned way, through the air. However, the construction with tiny speakers leaves your ears open, so that you can be aware of your surroundings.

Unboxing and First Impressions
I liked these headphones at first sight. The construction looks and feels premium. And they ship with a small, attractive, hard-sided case that doubles as a portable charger.
When you unbox them you discover you can use them right away, because they are already partly charged. And the minute you take them out of the charging case, they go into pairing mode. Just select them on your phone, and you are ready to ride!

When not in use, just put them back in the case, plug in any generic USB-C cable (such as the one they ship with), and they will quickly charge.

Operation of the OneOdio OpenRock S Air Conduction Sport Earbuds
Because the buttons are minimal but the operation is quite advanced and sophisticated, you will need to read the manual. However, as with most products today, the included manual is not much help because the type is so tiny that most people cannot read it.
But never fear, you can read the instructions here: https://manuals.plus/oneodio/openrock-s-air-conduction-sport-earbuds-manual#axzz8NPhqEVX6
Adjustable Fit
Most cyclists prefer a tight fit, so as not to lose their earbuds while cycling. That’s an aspect where these headphones have an edge. The part that wraps around your ear is not rigid. Instead, the ear hooks are adjustable silicone. So you can gently adjust them to fit your own ears better. Here is a video that show you how to use the OneOdio OpenRock S Air Conduction Sport Earbuds.
Note that these earbuds fit easily and comfortably with a cycling helmet. Even if you wear cycling glasses as well.

Sound Quality of the OneOdio OpenRock S Air Conduction Sport Earbuds
The sound quality blew both Maggie and me away. In fact, Mrs. Average Joe Cyclist actually started dancing! It takes really good sound quality to remind us that we don’t listen to music enough. And to remind us why we love it so much.
OneOdio prides themselves on the bass quality of the sound of these earbuds, and with good reason. The sound is excellent. The science behind it is TubeBass bass enhancement technology, paired with a 16.2 mm dynamic driver.
Play Time of the OneOdio OpenRock Earbuds
What if you like to spend an hour cycling to the gym, work out for an hour, and then cycle home again? Will these earbuds stay the distance? Most definitely. In my testing experience, they never seemed to run down. The claimed play time is 60 hours, and our testing bears that out.
This is helped further by the charging case. This case starts charging the minute you put the earbuds into it. And it’s a really great little case, hard sided. It will easily slide into the pocket of your cycling jacket or jersey, where your earbuds will quietly charge until you need them.

And, if you somehow manage to run the battery down, just a 5-minute quick charge will give you an hour’s play time, which should be enough for most cycling commutes.
Making Phone Calls on the OneOdio OpenRock Earbuds
These earbuds boast 4 built in mics, plus a noise cancelling feature. Of course, it is going to be challenging to make a call if you are competing in a race and generating major wind around you. However, you can certainly make a call during a relaxed bike ride.
Bottom Line on the OneOdio OpenRock S Air Conduction Sport Earbuds
These are premium ear buds in terms of both design and performance. They offer another way to enjoy premium sound quality on your bike, while still staying safely in touch with your surroundings. Instead of being bone conduction, they offer regular sound in an astonishingly small and premium package. We give these earbuds a definite Average Joe Cyclist thumbs up for cyclists who enjoy entertainment on their bikes, but want to stay safe.
