The Pan Pacific Christmas Wish Breakfast will take place at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver on Tuesday December 13, 2016, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., with Global TV in attendance as always. Global News Morning broadcasts the whole event live. Choirs entertain the crowds with seasonal songs. And Santa even shows up! In the video below, I recorded one of the choirs, Steve Darling (who was then still with Global) and Santa at last year’s Pan Pacific Christmas Wish Breakfast.
I love attending this event, where you donate a gift and then have breakfast with a lot of happy people sharing in the giving spirit of Christmas. Basically you just bring along a new, unwrapped toy (or a cash donation). Everything goes to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, which helps needy children over the Christmas season.
Every year the event is attended by thousands of people who donate literally tons of toys and thousands of dollars in cash and gift cards. And every year the donors share in a breakfast that includes over 12,500 sausages, 1,200 lbs of hashbrowns, thousands of eggs, and 4,200 croissants!

Bike donated at a previous Annual Pan Pacific Christmas Wish Breakfast in VancouverSome people and some companies even donate bikes. For example, Dominion Lending Centres and CAPS Westwood Cycles work together to donate hundreds of bikes. And many people can be seen every year carrying bikes as they wait in the cheerful lineup to donate their gift and collect their breakfast. Last year, more than one thousand bikes were donated!
Some of my happiest childhood memories are of Christmas mornings with a shiny new bike, so I think donating a bike is a wonderful thing to do. Last year I donated my first bike at the Pan Pacific Christmas Wish Breakfast. And I am really looking forward to doing it again this year!
If you’re in the Lower Mainland, think about showing up for this festive event. It’s always fun. And there’s something special about knowing on Christmas morning that somewhere in the area, there is an unknown, happy child who is unwrapping the present you bought – or even better, riding the bike you donated!
