I have the Bontrager Flare rear light, and when it is in its automatic mode, it will dim the light at night and shift from flashing mode to a pulse. The front version of the light will shift to steady mode at night, but it’s only bright enough for emergency situations, so I shift to a brighter headlight in the winter commuting season.

Can you add a section on flashing lights on shared walkways with pedestrians. We pedestrians are hard pressed to cause cyclists harm and the (often bright) strobe lights are pretty painful and annoying.

I was rather surprised to see no mention of the Garmin Varia rear light/radar system, particularly given all the Garmin Edge content on your site. I absolutely love mine, but would be curious to hear how motorists feel about the variable pulsing patterns that change with trailing vehicles’ approach distance/speed.
