Thanks for all the support Lucy. You are very open-minded, able to imagine a reality without the car you depend on. I know that you were recently close to a particularly awful car accident. One day I am going to write a post about the strange fact that we are all so content to let cars destroy lives. My own brother was killed by a speeding truck when he was just 24. At the time I thought it was just bad luck – now I also see it as the direct result of a system that prioritizes speed and convenience over human life.

I am so reliant on my car and yet when I read about your dream of safe and quiet streets it sounds so wonderful. A world where 2 year old lives were not being cut short by trucks and husbands were not being killed before even being able to meet their unborn baby!! Where does the hate from drivers even come from? I mean seriously is the impact of bikes on the roads really making their live so though?? We in our cars are a much bigger threat!! Even when we are trying to drive safely we are still in a huge, fast machine and we can and do make mistakes that can and are catastrophic. The hate isn’t going to get us anywhere(except for maybe a few more people in the grave.)
