Hi Scott. You may be right … although my PL-250 is old (2005), so they might have got lighter. Also, at that point of my life I was not very fit, so it may be that it just FELT like 30 lbs. Thanks for pointing it out – I will get my bathroom scale down to the garage one of these days and check the weight – and correct it if need be!

Hi Alex. I do it the opposite way – use the BionX for my tough weekday commute (extreme hills), and then use my regular bike for fun rides on the weekend, and for touring. I have to say that the BionX makes my commute downright fun!

Thanks for clarifying about the trail. I was wondering what it was called. I remember the 7-11 signs clearly, so that must have been what it was. I need to update the post accordingly …

I could totally see myself getting one of these e-kits as a weekend toy. And then liking it so much that I end up using it all the time.

Ah sounds like you experienced the old 7-11/BC Parkway. I imagine it was great by the 1986 standards when it was built, but sure could use some work now. Translink says they are in the process of designing upgrades to it. There’s now a new section between Kingsway and the Patterson Station area that is VERY (very!) wide and with lighting, and very smooth. I can’t find the news release right now, but it should be a several million dollar upgrade.
