It runs all the way from Science World in Vancouver to the New Westminster Quay. It's a challenging but very interesting bike ride. Parts are magical, other parts still need work to make them pleasant. It is NOT a AAA route (all ages and abilities), even though it aspires to be. Still, it is quite an awesome route, covering 24 km (15 miles) from Vancouver, through Burnaby, and into New Westminster. It is remarkably flat most of the time, but there are a few uphills.

It’s a wonderful cycle route, much used and loved by thousands of BC Lower Mainland cyclists. But wow, it is a route of extremes, with many sublime parts, and some horrible bits, as described in a previous post. In response to some debate […]

If a Bike Route is “temporary” for more than a year, is it actually “permanent”? Problems with the Central Valley Greenway https://averagejoecyclist.com/problems-with-the-central-valley-greenway/ https://averagejoecyclist.com/problems-with-the-central-valley-greenway/#comments Wed, 13 Oct 2010 07:06:35 +0000 https://averagejoecyclist.com/?p=1215 The Central Valley Greenway runs from the New Westminster Quay, via Burnaby, to Science World in Vancouver – a total distance of 24 km. It is marvelously ambitious; hinting at a wonderful future when commuting by bike could be easy and safe for a wide range of cyclists – from kids to seniors, and everyone in between. Unfortunately, it still has some major problems.

The Central Valley Greenway – If a Greenway is full of Semi’s, is it still a Greenway? https://averagejoecyclist.com/central-valley-greenway-review/ https://averagejoecyclist.com/central-valley-greenway-review/#comments Fri, 01 Oct 2010 01:11:51 +0000 https://averagejoecyclist.com/?p=825 The Central Valley Greenway runs all the way from the New Westminster Quay, via Burnaby, to Science World in Vancouver – a total distance of 24 km. The creators of this route really, really tried to make a magnificent cycling route. But unfortunately, the execution was sometimes lacking. At times the route soars impressively to the heights – but at other times, it really, really sucks.
